This piece is inspired from a magical place along the Mill River where it only looks like this for a few days a year. I first discovered it in 2004 and have been drawing and painting it ever since. The arch is no longer there, but the incredible red color still happens every fall. Every time I see it, I feel like I have stumbled upon a little piece of magic. In this drawing, I really wanted to contain all the energy instead of releasing it into the sky. Just like Cezanne painted Mount Saint-Victoire over and over, this place has become my well of never ending inspiration. There is something so compelling about how the foreground, reflection, and water all become one. It is hard to name which is which, and to me that is just magical! And the color, is simply out of this world!!!
Pastel on Sennelier la Carte, sanded pastel paper.

There are three options in buying my work. When shipping I either sell my pastels unframed or with a frame, mat and no glass. It is not feasible to ship pastels with glass, so the price difference reflects that the buyer will have to take it to a framer on the other end to get the glass installed. Or the work can be picked up in my studio in Easthampton, MA, with frame, mat, and glass.
